Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)

If you can't wait for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, then Uncharted provides a more than adequate placeholder for archaological hijinks.

Nathan Drake is the (supposed) descendant of famous explorer Sir Francis Drake. Unearthing a coffin buried at sea, Nate discovers a map to the fabled El Dorado. With his partner Sully and troublesome reporter Elena, Drake sets out to uncover the secrets of the City of Gold and hopefully make his fortune along the way.

The first two things you'll notice about Uncharted are the wonderful motion capture and the excellent voice acting. Characters move and speak with such ease and natural fluidity that you'd swear you're watching a movie half the time. High-quality graphics usually come at the cost of wonderful acting, but Uncharted delivers both 100% of the time. Personally, I've never seen such quality, and I certainly hope Uncharted becomes a benchmark for future developments.

The terrain is amazingly detailed, with the best water effects I've ever seen in a game. Locations aren't highly varied (jungle, jungle island, Spanish ruins, German bunker), but you wind up focusing more on the action, and the variety comes in the depth of those few locales. The ruins, for instance, are huge, and every spot is rich with detail.

Control initially takes some getting used to (shoulder buttons control aiming and shooting) but the longer you play, the easier it is to deal with. Extra content comes in via unlockable achievements and collectible treasures, and you can keep these in a universal profile available over multiple data files.

A straight playthrough is only about eight to ten hours, but it's all time well-spent. With twists and turns abound, you're constantly left wondering what's going to happen next. All in all, Uncharted is a must-have for PS3 owners, and I would go so far as to call it "a Pitfall for the new generation."

See, this is why life is unfair.
You not only have a PS3, but you have a big tv too.
Wtf!
You should be a nice big brother and buy me a PS3
I did not *jump* to conclusions.
There was no jumping.
I just took a tiny step and there conclusions were.
